A personalised touch suits the occasion well. A message marking the years of service, or simply the leaver's name, turns the hamper into a keepsake of the day rather than a generic box. Keep any message warm and brief, allow lead time for the personalisation, and order earlier still if the retirement falls near Christmas.
A share bag suits the smaller, easier version of the same idea. It is right for a casual drop-in, for a flat rather than a house, or for a friend who would find a full hamper too much. It still says you thought about it, and it disappears happily over an evening rather than sitting on a shelf.
Timing is easy compared with weddings or corporate orders, but if you want personalisation, a new address or lilyobriens.co.uk a short message for instance, allow a few extra days rather than ordering the night before.
Get the count right with a sensible buffer, place each favour consistently, and order well ahead of the day. The etiquette looks after itself once the logistics do.
Provenance gives a retirement gift the weight it should have. Lily O'Brien's has handcrafted its chocolates in Newbridge, Co. Kildare since 1992, and holds BRC Grade A+ accreditation for its production, so the hamper arrives as something made with genuine care rather than assembled for the sake of it. For a gift meant to say a career mattered, that kind of detail does real work.
Keep the gift aimed at the adults, personalise it for the day, and check the detail before you order. A named box of chocolates handcrafted with a bit of provenance behind it marks a christening or an announcement in a way that feels chosen, and it gives the parents something that is unmistakably for them.
